CUPCAKES VS. CAKES – WHICH IS BEST FOR YOUR EVENT?

Remember being a kid and loving the cupcakes your Mom brought to school on your birthday?  People have always loved cupcakes…they’re cute, individual and easy to eat.  Face it, they’re fun!  It’s no different here in Cabo…we love our cupcakes too.

But cupcakes for your Cabo wedding?
Cupcakes have reached a new level of popularity with many of the cupcake reality shows like  “The Cupcake Girls” and “Cupcake Wars.”  However, unlike in the States, here in Cabo we don’t have a speciality cupcake shop on every street corner.  Therefore, if you want a cupcake, you need to order one from us, Cabo Flowers and Cakes.
But, again, the question, cupcakes for your Cabo wedding?

Sure, if you want them!  Wedding cakes have always reigned supreme and probably always will.  But cupcakes add a touch of whimsy to what can be a very serious affair (your wedding!)  The brides that choose cupcakes do so for the following reasons:
  1. Fun!
  2. A variety of flavors
  3. As a unique decor item
  4. As part of a larger dessert bar
  5. In conjunction with a wedding cake
So, go ahead, order cupcakes for your Cabo wedding!  Let us know what flavors you want (yes, you can add a filling to a cupcake as well) and we’ll help you design something that will make your guests smile (and grab a chocolate one AND a strawberry one!)  Because, sometimes, with cupcakes, just one won’t do.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO ASK AT YOUR CAKE TASTING (ESPECIALLY FOR A CABO WEDDING):

#1 HOW WILL THIS CAKE FARE IN THE WEATHER [ON YOUR DATE]?

Different cakes (and frostings) react differently in different temperatures. With most Cabo weddings being held outdoors, this is a really important question to ask. Then make sure that the cake you’ve picked out will hold up perfectly during your event’s time of the year.

#2 CAN I SAVE (AND TRAVEL WITH) MY CAKE TOP?

Tradition says that the top tier of your cake should be saved for your one year anniversary. However, if you are having a destination wedding (like in Cabo), many countries may limit what you can and can’t take back across the border. If you have to check off the box on your Customs form stating that you are carrying back food, this may increase your chances at time in the Customs line. Don’t bring back food. Enjoy your top tier of your cake with your guests at the event, or save it for the day or two afterwards.

#3 WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALTY?

Your cake baker’s specialty will be that cake that she specializes in, that she is an expert at. It will be the cake that she likes the best and is very proud of. That may be reason enough to trust her and trust that this must be one awesome cake combination for it to be so highly regarded by her. Go for the specialty, at least on one tier!

#4 HOW DO YOU PRESENT THE CAKE?

Does the cake include a cake stand? Is there a choice of cake stand? Can I see photos of that? What about with cupcakes? (Their presentation is especially important, as you don’t want them to look like you are at an elementary school birthday party in your wedding photos.) How the cake is actually presented on the night of your wedding is almost as important as how it tastes. Almost…

In the end, your cake tasting should be fun and informative (and a great way to get your groom involved as well.) We all love a great slice of cake! At Cabo Flowers & Cakes, we love a tasting too because it gives us a chance to make sure our couples are happy and in love with their cake choices.
